Live @ Lotus Lodge - our unique, quiet, shared-house community of 9 men and women, ages 30s-60s, in a 2-story, old, Craftsman style farm house that was converted into a 5-plex (5 separate apartments with 5 kitchens, 9 bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms) so each person enjoys considerable privacy as well as having great folks around - the best of both worlds. All bedrooms are furnished (with the basics as bed, a nightstand, chair, etc.), have 2-3 windows (all are plenty sunny) and rent includes high speed WiFi and utilities, except electricity which is about $42/month on average.

A downstairs bedroom is available now for a short-term renter for $300/week until June 24. Then it's available for a long-term renter starting in either November or December for $620/month plus a share of the electric. It's larger (about 16 x 13), with 3 tall windows, a fireplace (doesn't work but looks pretty), full-sized bed, just off the big front porch. A smaller upstairs bedroom, in a different apartment, opens up May 21 for $520/month plus a share of the electric, for a long term renter - OR for $250/week until we find that special long-term person.

Everyone has their own designated cupboard and refrigerator space (no food restrictions) in a kitchen with all needed kitchenware. Rooms include access to a washer and dryer (or clotheslines for committed environmentalists) as well as access to various outside areas, such as the fire pit, compost bins, yard, and organic gardens. You would be welcome to grow your own greens. Contrary to what you might think, there's more of a sense of privacy and autonomy in this shared space of 9 people coming and going, than when one shares a home with just 1 or 2 others. Only rarely do we have meetings, never mandatory, typically about gardening or planning some fun event. There are house rules, however, to keep our place quiet and enjoyable for all. No pets here but we have a neighborly dog and 2 cats that visit.

This is a special place - founded in 2004 with the intention to create a unique shared-house, "intentional community" for like-minded folks and it has been evolving since to embrace more autonomy of the individuals on the one hand, and more of a neighborhood-wide, community feel on the other. Generally, we are progressive, educated and inclusive folks who are into permaculture, holistic thinking and making a difference in the world. We live in a semi-rural area across the street from Hominy Creek, and have nearby hiking areas and sports park (with an 18-hole Disc Golf course and volley ball court), yet are just 12+ minutes from the heart of downtown Asheville. We aren't close to a bus line, however.

If interested, please email us info about you, your ideal timing for living here (approximate start and end dates), your phone number, and a request for our questionnaire / application. Credit and background check may be required. NO pets and we prefer nonsmokers. We have a Meetup, which is a potluck plus an interesting presentation and lively discussion (or sing-along) that meets downstairs once a month. Check out our previous gatherings and join (free - can un-join any time) if so inspired at: Namaste! Gaya, proprietor. NOTE: If you reply with no information about you or your phone number, we likely won't respond.
