Join us @ Lotus Lodge - our unique, quiet, shared-house community of 9 men and women, ages 30s-60s, in a 2-story, Craftsman style, old farm house that was converted into a 5-plex (5 separate apartments with 5 kitchens, 9 bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms) so each person enjoys considerable privacy as well as having great folks around - the best of both worlds. All bedrooms are furnished, have 2-3 windows and rent includes high speed WiFi and utilities, except electricity which is about $42/month on average.
A bedroom in an upstairs 2- BR, furnished apartment (so shared with just one other person) is becoming available May 21 for a long-term renter (10 months minimum). Rent is $520/month plus a share of the electric. Everyone has their own designated cupboard and refrigerator space (no food restrictions) in a kitchen with all needed kitchenware. This room could be available on a short-term basis ($250/week - and include all bedding, etc.) until the right person rents it for long-term. Inquire if interested.
Room includes access to a washer and dryer (or clotheslines for committed environmentalists) as well as access to various outside areas, such as the fire pit, compost bins, yard, and organic gardens. You are welcome to grow your own veggies! Contrary to what you might think, there's more of a sense of privacy and autonomy in this shared space of 9 people coming and going, than when one shares a home with just 1 or 2 others. Only rarely do we have meetings, never mandatory, typically about gardening or planning some fun event. There are house rules, however, to keep our place quiet and enjoyable for all. NO pets allowed but we have a neighborly dog and 2 cats that visit.
This is a special place - founded in 2004 with the intention to create a unique shared-house, "intentional community" for like-minded folks and it has been evolving since to embrace more autonomy of the individuals on the one hand, and more of a neighborhood-wide, community feel on the other. Generally, we are progressive, educated and inclusive folks who are into permaculture, holistic thinking and making a difference in the world. We live in a semi-rural area across the street from Hominy Creek, and have nearby hiking areas and a sports park (with an 18-hole Disc Golf course, walking paths and volley ball court), yet are just 12+ minutes from the heart of downtown Asheville. We aren't close to the bus line, however.
If interested, please email us info about you, your ideal timing for living here (approximate start and end dates), and a request for our questionnaire / application. Credit and background check may be required. We have a monthly Meetup, which is a potluck plus an interesting presentation and lively discussion (or sing along) that meets in the downstairs gathering room at 6pm on the 3rd or 4th Sunday of most months. Check out our previous gatherings and join (free - can un-join any time) if so inspired at: https://www.meetup.com/Community-Network-Gathering/ Namaste! Gaya, proprietor. NOTE: If you reply by just asking whether it's still available and provide no info on you or your phone number, we likely won't respond. Thanks for understanding.
