* The mandolin and I are in the Sapphire/Cashiers area through November 15th. After that, we will be returning home to Wilmington, NC. I have no internet where I am staying, but do have cell service. I will be checking messages when possible. Texts or phone would be best.
This was Max Girouard’s personal mandolin. I purchased it directly from Max. He built it using his best AAAA+ grade woods. Lori told me it was her favorite burst she’d ever done. Shortly after finishing it, Max got a request for a 10 string fan fret mando. He put this up for sale to raise funds for tooling to build the fan fret.
This mando and its sibling, for the late great David Surette, were built side by side. They were the first two mandolins of 2014 from Girouard. There are YT videos of David playing his, which will give you an idea of its tone.
Cumberland bridge, engraved James tailpiece, 11/8” nut, hand rubbed stain sunburst, hot hide glue construction, varnish finish.
The photos were taken by Lori Girouard, she is a far better photographer than I.
This mandolin is in mint condition.
I have not been active on the Mandolin Café for quite a while, but there are some old posts discussing this mandolin. My username is ferrousgeek.
Current pricing for this custom build would be in the $7k range. I feel my price is fair, as his stock models are fetching $3500 - $4k in the used market.
