make / manufacturer: Vega
model name / number: Vegaphone Tenor
This Roaring Twenties era banjo is in terrific shape. The plating on the resonator flanges, bracket band, hoop, hooks, nuts, shoes and tailpiece is all in exceptionally good condition. Ditto the armrest, although I don't think it's original. The MOTS band around the resonator looks super. The neck is straight, the frets are OK (certainly playable) -- in short, it needs nothing. There is some buckle rash on the back of the resonator and the finish has partially been scraped off over the center neck lamination in places, probably from a spring-back capo.

It has the 17-fret Vega neck and a low-mileage amber head. Besides being a solid player for Irish tenor music, the condition of the Tubaphone pot makes it a great candidate for conversion to a 5-string bluegrass banjo. It would come with either a new plywood HSC or what I assume is the original brown alligator hard case.
