My 1920s Vegaphone tenor banjo came to me in this case. I have protected the edges with color-matching artist tape. I also refurbished the interior with additional closed-cell foam covered with flocked fabric as these old cases were notoriously short of padding.
This is NOT a chipboard case; it is made of plywood and covered with an alligator-looking material that may -- may -- in fact be leather.
All of the latches work and the handle has been repaired with leather.
