I was trained as an SAT Math Tutor by a west coast company called Ivy West. Subsequently, I had a successful career as a STEM teacher at an area school (pre-K through 8). I have worked in curriculum development and I have spent thousands of hours in the classroom with kids from 4 to 18. I have been moonlighting as an SAT Math tutor throughout this time.
I taught SAT Math in one-on-one settings and in the classroom for two years with Ivy West. I recently scored a 1480 on the SAT (within four years).
My approach to SAT prep involves:
- A comprehensive understanding of the structure of the test. Sections and times for each. When will there be breaks. What can you bring with you to the test. How the test is scored.
- Tips and coping skills for test anxiety
- An overview of the math sections. The construction of each section. Where the most difficult problems are found.
- A review of the math topics that are included in the test.
- A graded practice test with a comprehensive review of the student’s performance at the beginning and the end of our time together.
- Special focus on the timing of the test and how to create the most advantage possible within the constraints of those time limits.
- SAT specific tips, like “when it’s to your advantage to guess” and “how the test makers will attempt to trick you” and “how do the test makers determine a hard problem versus an easy one?”
I motivate and inspire students to do their best on test day. I build confidence through practice and through demonstrated improvements in performance (practice tests). We will chart your student’s progress. Your satisfaction is guaranteed! Rates vary depending on in-person or virtual meeting. Reach out and let’s discuss your situation.
