Pure Bred Red Wattle Hog - Piglets – Pasture Raised- Breeders (boys/boars and girls/gilts) and Feeder Pigs Available $250.00

Red Wattle hogs are a heritage breed of hog that still remain on the threatened list of the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. The Red Wattle is a rare and highly sought-after pig breed, with less than 1000 registrations in the US and a total worldwide population of less than 5000.

They have a reputation for producing a well marbled, lean, flavorful meat, for which upscale restaurants are willing to pay a premium price, as they are often called the “Filet Mignon of pork”. They also have a very long and broad torso, that provides an abundance of some of the finest bacon on earth...

The Red Wattle is a large, red hog with a fleshy wattle attached to each side of the neck. (The wattles have no known function.)

The Red Wattle has all the best features you would want in raising hogs:

The breed is unique to North America making them especially valuable genetically. They have a rapid growth rate, they are mellow, easy to handle, are able to forage for themselves, and hardy enough to thrive in the outdoors and adapt to a wide range of climates and landscapes. They are active foragers, making them a good choice in outdoor, pasture, woods or hilly terrain. The sows are excellent mothers, farrow (birth) from 10 to 12 piglets per litter, and provide good quantities of milk for their large litters. Their mild temperament and their gentle nature makes them a great choice for the small-scale, independent farmer or homesteader.

Our pigs have never been raised on concrete, and are already electric fence and pasture trained.
Our boar (the piglet’s father pictured here by himself) is 950 lbs. at 2 years old and grew to 600 pounds in less than a year.

The piglets will measure up to four feet high and eight feet long when fully grown. (Although most people raising them for meat, butcher the animals around 300 to 325 pounds with hanging weights from 220 to 245 pounds.) With the current price of pork at $6.00/lb retail, that is conservatively $1320.00 worth of meat in less than a year.
