Oh, and fun fact—remember Cornelius, the Kellogg’s Corn Flakes rooster? That’s a Welsummer chicken, strutting his stuff on cereal boxes since the ‘50s!
Welsummers are dual-purpose birds, valued primarily for egg production but also raised for meat. They are cold hardy, low-maintenance, and excellent foragers, which reduces feed requirements if allowed to free-range.
They are generally docile, not overly aggressive, and adapt well to free-ranging or enclosed environments. Them make excellent Mothers
