Mary Cassatt lived from 1844-1926. She often created paintings of women. One of her favorite subjects was the bond between mothers and children. She was American-born and grew up in Pennsylvania, but spent a good part of her life in France. Renown French art critic and historian Gustave Geffroy described Mary Cassatt as "one of the three great ladies of Impressionism." He included her alongside French artists Marie Bracquemond and Berthe Morisot. Cassatt eventually had to give up painting due to failing eyesight, but she preserved her enthusiasm and devotion to art until the end of her life.
