Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition / Stravinsky: Le Sacre Du Printemps, performed by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Herbert von Karajan. Modest Mussorgsky (1839-1881) composed Bilder einer Ausstellung, which was orchestrated by Maurice Ravel. Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) composed The Rite of Spring - the version presented here was revised in 1947. It was poorly received by critics and patrons alike when first performed - it is now one of the most highly acclaimed symphonic works of the 20th century. Musikfest. $5.

In this recording Jonathan Vaughn plays the organ, Simon Wall (tenor) is the Evangelist, James Birchall (baritone) plays Christ, and Edward Grint (bass) sings the parts of the High Priest, Judas, and Pilate. Ruth Jenkins (soprano) is the soloist. This recording also includes an organ Voluntary - Toccata-Prelude on "Pange lingua" by Edward Bairstow (1874-1946).
