Beautiful piece I picked up in Laos long ago. Northern Laos, this is a “pha bieng” shoulder sash. It's meticulously handwoven on wooden looms. The technique is known as supplementary weft in which the motifs are added as a supplement on top of the weave of the body of the cloth. Each separate color must be started and stopped with a small knot. Superb workmanship! It is a long, rectangular piece, fully worked by hand. Let me know if you want exact measurements. So much nicer than bare walls!
