I am an accomplished professional photographer offering lessons for beginners in photography, Photoshop, and Lightroom. All lessons are by appointment, private, and one-on-one. I will teach you how to operate your camera, achieve proper exposure, and the basic things you need to understand to get good pictures. Lessons may or may not include (depending on your individual needs) instruction in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, the two industry standard programs used as a digital darkroom. Software instruction, if needed, would include how to install and setup the applications on your computer, how to organize and store the files you create, and how to actually use Lightroom and Photoshop.
All lessons are at your own pace. I will not proceed faster than you gain understanding. My goal is to get you out there shooting pics after the first lesson, and fully comfortable after a few lessons.
Pricing is $35 for a half-hour. $50 for a full hour.
Lessons are held at my home office near Biltmore Village in Asheville. I provide some of the best coffee in town during the lesson. (It's home roasted by me.) If you prefer tea, you are on your own. If you are uncomfortable coming alone, feel free to bring a friend who can watch TV or read while we work together.
Don't feel you must spend thousands of dollars and have the latest greatest equipment to make good photographs. I will teach you to work with what you have and develop your eye.
A little about me - I'm John Gellman. I have been shooting professionally for over 40 years. Although I do all kinds of photography, I am mostly known for my music and portrait photography, having contributed photos to documentaries, albums, CDs, and box sets for everyone from unknown bands, to members of the Allman Brothers Band, and most recently, Eric Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Rolling Stones. I am about to publish a book of studio portraits of buskers, the street musicians who perform on the sidewalks of downtown Asheville.
