This beauty was created back in the 70's on the Island of Bali using a vintage strong thick 'ikat' textile using natural plant dyes. It was handwoven decades prior to the 70's using the very arduous weaving technique called 'Ikat' (where the threads are tied and dyed before the weaving process even begins!)
It has a front pocket which can accommodate a cell phones (of a certain size ~ see below), keys, money, etc. It has 'pleats' on the pocket so is fairly 'flexible' as far as putting things inside.
It is adjustable for a waist size of about 27.5" to 39" with seven different snaps to choose from to use.
It serves as a belt also and is much more comfortable to wear than a fanny pack as it is evenly distributed. Would make a great dance purse also as you can have your important items with you while you are dancing and not leave them behind where you can't see them and worry about whether they will still be there upon your return from the dance floor.
It has 20 what I believe to be authentic antique Chinese bronze coins on it (these are in itself a valuable commodity as they are sold individually on many sites, some for a lot of money). These were used in Bali cremation rituals prior to being used on this item.
They are the ones with the square hole inside which the clever artist who made this unusual wearable art object/belt/pouch used the hole to attach spring snaps to in order to make this item adjustable. You can choose whichever snap fits your waist the best out of the seven snaps there.
The entire length of this piece when it is not on/closed is 40.5".
The maximum length at the very last closed snap is 39" waist size (with only one snap being used).
The minimum length at the 'fully snapped' position, the waist size would be around 27.5". There are 7 snaps to choose from.
The pocket (which is in the front) has a zipper opening that is 6.25". The pocket itself is about 7.5" wide and has a width of 3.5". Since the fabric is pleated in the front, it can be quite roomy inside the pocket, enabling you to put several items in there, like a wallet, etc. My IPhone which is 6.25" x 3.25" will barely fit in there as I have a cover on it (it fits in but the zipper wont close properly. So, if your phone is smaller, it might fit. Or, if you are like me, I don't take my phone to dances.
It is a beautiful, elegant piece which can function as a wide belt along with a small purse. Well lined and strong.
This vintage ikat textile (using the most arduous weaving technique referred to as an ikat which was done long ago by non-industrialized peoples) was dyed using only natural dyes by the woman who laboriously wove this strong, long-lasting ikat textile. Ikat fabric is created using a skill-intensive process of marking, tying and dyeing the design into the yarn before it is woven. But as one of the oldest forms of weaving. This item is vintage but has never been worn. From a smoke-free and pet-free home.Belt/Purse with Antique Chinese Coins -
