RARELY-SEEN, LARGE-SCALE STATUE OF GARUDA - $300 (Cullowhee/Glenville/Cashiers)

As with many classical religious statues from the same part of the world, the presentation is 'frontal,' that is, it is not designed to be viewed in a 360° fashion, hence the mostly unworked back. The age of this piece is unknown to me and indeterminable by me. This statue is actually fashioned of two parts: (1) the foreground figure and (2) the wings which securely insert behind the figure.
As you can see from the photos, Garuda is conceived of as basically a human male, but with certain bird-like features (a prominent, hooked beak, spreading wings, and hybrid avian-human feet). He also wears a crown of peacock feathers.
Important in India, Garuda is known as an enemy of poisonous snakes, hence the cobra clutched in his right hand. Look closely and you will be surprised to see that Garuda has four vicious-looking fangs inside his beak. A 'rare bird,' indeed! (Juvenal: “rara avis in terris, nigroque simillima cygno” /a rare bird upon the earth, and very much like a black swan).
Garuda is best known, though, as a faithful servant of Lord Vishnu, hence the offering pot filled with the amrita of immortality held in the bird-man's left hand. In fact, he is most commonly depicted in his role as Vishnu's vahana (transport), flying with Vishnu on his back.
This particular statue is uncommon in many respects, and it certainly has great artistic, cultural, and spiritual value, for those who can see it.

Sale is 'CASH & CARRY,' that is, I accept only exact-amount greenback cash (and only twenties, because I've been ripped off before). For greater clarity: no checks of any kind, no wire transfers, no financing, no layaway/holding, and I have no facility to take credit/debit cards or to make change.
And you must come to my place and remove the statue from my house. You must also bring your own quilts, blankets, tarps, rachets, or whatever, to secure and protect the statue during transport.
The statue is sold "AS IS," and the sale is FINAL (no returns or refunds).
