Mary Cassatt lived from 1844-1926. She often created paintings of women. One of her favorite subjects was the bond between mothers and children. She was born and grew up in America, but spent a good part of her life in France. Renown French art critic Gustave Geffroy described Mary Cassatt as "one of the three great ladies" of Impressionism. He included her alongside French artists Marie Bracquemond and Berthe Morisot.
