As the previous post stated,There are a few paying clubs and stick with a reg. rotation of mostly locals other than that,There is no money playing Clubs in this town PERIOD!!!! Play for the door and most folks get tickets free off the radio,The Band has to split the door 50-50 with the sound guy,!!!the bars make the money, and the Band plays for a decent crowd and the Band makes $20-$30 bucks. Who came up with telling the world this town is a music mecca!!!! But I do think things got to get better I don't know how it could get any worst!!!

i'm into everything really except country, i listen to a lot of progressive stuff (tool, dream theater, opeth, indukti, beardfish, faith no more, radiohead), the almighty zappa, jam (umphrey's mcgee, phish, primus), old chili peppers, and world music. i also love drippy funk (the meters) and reggae (bob and ziggy, others), and grew up on rush, yes, genesis, thrash/hardcore.

looking for a primarily jamming/recording situation - i've done the touring/recording thing in the past, but now i'm a working family guy. i have good equipment and some recording gear. ultimately, i'd love to find people into getting together a jam space and write for ourselves. with no plans to 'make it', we can write whatever makes us happy and record. not looking to any covers, maybe somewhere down the line but for now just looking to jam and create. 1 or 2 guitars OK, vocals if we have them, keys would be great too but if not that's okay too.

me: i'm 43 with lots of touring and recording experience, daytime engineering job, married with 3 kids, occasional beer/420 guy. hopefully jam 1 - 2 times a week when it's cold, once a week or so during the good weather - i'm a mountain biker and use up some of my free time to hit the dirt. no rock stars/big egos unless you're capable of being really good AND not a control freak, democracy's the key for me. i'd like to get the ball rolling after the holidays with jamming/trying out, so i'm starting my search now.

i know some people hate these lists of influences...i'm working on some tracks to throw online, but it's taking a lot longer than i hoped it would; if necessary i can point you at some rough stuff but i'm really not ready to throw anything on the web yet.

Hi all, every Tuesday night we are hosting Will Ray's Mountain Jam at the "Feed And Seed" club in south Asheville. Local music legends "The Sons of Ralph" are our house band. We do a short set in order to set the mood, and then start getting people up on stage who want to sit in with the band. The objective is to "jam on" some good grooves & standards, be creative, and to have fun.

If you want to just listen, there's a lot of good picking going on. We've had musicians such as David Holt and Bobby Cochran perform, as well as members from the Hellecasters, Bill Monroe, Vassar Clements, Rhonda Vincent, Michael Nesmith, Carlene Carter and Ronnie Milsap. Sometimes the picking gets ferocious on stage!

If you want to sit in, we have a sign-up sheet which works on a first come, first served basis, so get there early because we need to be done by 9:30pm. Whether you sing, play guitar, bass, fiddle, drums or whatever - this is your chance to show Asheville what you can do, and maybe hook up with some other musicians in the process. We provide the drum kit, amps, PA and pro backup band - you provide the talent and instrument (Guitar, bass, keys, vocals etc). We'll back you up and support you to sound your best.

The "Feed And Seed" is located at 3715 Hendersonville Road in south Asheville in Fletcher, at the corner of Fanning Bridge Road, next to Sunshine Chevrolet. The Mountain Jam hours go from 7:30 - 9:30pm every Tuesday night. And admission is Freeeeeeeeeee!

Come on down and sit in, or just sit back and enjoy the music and the anything-can-happen atmosphere. This is a family type establishment, with no smoking and no alcohol. They have a nice concession stand there where you can buy bottled water and soft drinks and snacks. It's a place where the music speaks for itself.

Hello,

First off, I will tell you a little about myself. I am a composer and multi-instrumentalist who has been playing for 7 years. For the past 5 1/2 years, I have been fortunate enough to preform with many talented people from across the region. I am currently in a working band, but I honestly don't see it going anywhere. I am a college student, so that band is more of a way to pay my way through college without having to work than something I have a passion for. I have a background in Folk/Appalachian music, but I have had experience in Rock, Blues, Jazz, Country, and Soul. Over the past few years, I have come to the realization of my strong points, as well as my weak points. My strongest quality is that I have a fairly deep understanding of music, so I can fairly easily compose music. I enjoy writing and performing complex arrangements, but I also love a song that breathes simplicity. However, I have also discovered that I am no lyricist. That is my reason for posting this tonight.

I am seeking someone who is a lyricist/vocalist who needs help with the music side. Or even someone who understands music even more than I do. Basically, I am seeking someone to collaborate with and create beautiful music, whatever that encompasses. My ideal collaboration would be with someone who already "has the ball rolling." In other words, I am not necessarily wanting to start fresh with someone, but to join their journey and give what help I can along the way. I have samples of my work, but in order to see the "real" me, I would hope to meet with the person and see how we click.

As for some of the things I am looking for:
*A person or band that already has their project in the making.
*Someone who has a true passion for music.
*Someone who can write lyrics, and sing them well.
*Someone who is determined and reliable (please, if you think missing practices or performances are okay, don't reply).
*Preferably someone with performance experience (though I can live without it).
*Preferably someone who plays an instrument (but again, I can live without it).
*Someone who knows what they're good at, but isn't egotistical.

Now, what you can expect from me:
*I am primarily a guitarist (I do not prefer acoustic or electric, as both are beautiful instruments)
*I can also play bass, banjo, mandolin, and some drums and keys.
*I have a deep understanding of theory.
*I can sing harmony vocals.
*I have 500+ shows to date, so I'm "seasoned."
*I am reliable.
*I have my own transportation, and am not afraid to travel for practices/performances.
*I have professional gear.
*I have a passion for music that cannot be shaken.
*I have a good pool of fellow musicians that I can call on.

Hey there, I'm a Music Technology major at UNCA. I've got some free time coming up over the holiday break and I'm trying to put it to good use and make some $$ in the process. I've got a nice recording setup at my house. Let me emphasize that - I'm not fucking around. I don't use bush league equipment and I know what I'm doing (it's what I'm going to school for). I think musicians and bands will read these ads and will get the impression that the people who post these types of "amateur home recording studio" ads have bullshit equipment and don't have a clue. Well, this couldn't be farther from the truth. I've got an 8 core Mac Pro with more processing power than all the computers you've ever owned combined, Pro Tools 8, a Yamaha Motif, a 16 channel Mackie mixing board (if you prefer out-of-the-box mixes) and an awesome mic locker. My mic selection is anchored by an AKG 414 EB, which is an industry standard. I have a basement where you can track drums, or your entire band at the same time if you want track together (as Bill O'Reilly would say - "Fuck it, we'll do it live!). I'm also familiar with copyright laws and can provide you with the necessary forms to submit to the government to protect your work.

I've already got some bands scheduled for the break but there is still a fair amount of time available. Tracking is $10/ho, meaning we get the files recorded into the computer and I give them to you without doing anything to them. Session files, a bounced .wav file, .mp3 files, whatever you want. Mixing is a flat rate cost that I choose based on how much work the tracks will need, and because you have no idea of knowing how many hours I worked on it. I can also mix pre-recorded songs if you want some retouching done. Samples of my work are readily available (projects done at my spot and elsewhere) and I can provide references from bands I've recorded in the past. Time available the first two weeks of January and some in late December. I can schedule time for weekends and evenings after that. Salutations!

I'm a 25 year old musician moving to Asheville at the end of December and looking to meet musicians interested in playing some riff heavy, experimental, jam intensive metallic hard rock/blues. My influences come mainly from the Replacements, Melvins, Clutch, Big Business but your influences are welcome! I am a vocalist and bass player, however, I am without an amp at the moment (hard times) so I'm hoping to focus mostly on the lyrical side of things and maybe pick up an instrument or two depending on what's needed for a specific song.

I'm looking for a swampy guitarist, low end bassist, and harmonica player. I want rowdy, sing along filled, bar brawlin' rock and roll that is as fun for the hippies as it is for the metal heads. I want to make live performances feel like a rock and roll gospel revival, and as a visual artist I plan on using a number of concert enhancing artistic experimentation.

I already have a name I would like to use which really sets the mood for the kind of madness I'm hoping to create. All I need are three guys with the drive to do it!

After playing in numerous bands I got a few stipulations:
1) Don't even email me if you are a drug addict. A little booze and a few spliffs are more than ok, but if you are into needles or whatever just leave me alone. Been down that road before.
2) NO EGO! I have already dealt with enough wannabe rock stars and I'm not looking to be the only guy trying to push the project. Being a nice guy is just as cool.
3) Be over 21.

To be more specific, I would love to play rock n' roll and punk in the vein of Johnny Thunders, MC5, Iggy & The Stooges, T Rex, NY Dolls, Ramones, The Clash, Television, Melvins, Boris, Dinosaur Jr, Shellac, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Zombies, Bo Diddley, The Sonics, Link Wray, etc etc. There are some great local rock and roll acts (Reigning Sound, Forty Furies, The Poles, Death To Analog, Rubber Cushion, etc) so I know there are musicians in this town other than hippies that play acoustic guitar and rap over it. I'm looking for a drummer, bassist, and maybe another guitarist. I can play bass or drums (if one isn't filled), but I've been playing guitar for a long time and am most comfortable with it. Learn to play Brazilian Samba drums in the style of the big samba groups in Rio de Janeiro and Bahia. Samba style covered are Samba Enredo and Samba Regaee. Instruments presented will be surdo (large bass drums), caxia (snare), tamborim (small tamborine), agogo (double bell), ganza (shaker).

All skill levels from beginner to advanced are welcomed.

The series of six classes begin Tuesday Jan. 5, 2010 and are held every Tuesday through Feb 9th. Classes will be from 5:30 - 6:30 pm and held at the Capoiera Studio at 257 Short Coxe Ave. in Asheville.

Classes are taught by Allen Frost, Director of Zabumba! with assistance from Zabumba! members.

The series of six classes is only $60 or you may pay by the class each being $12.

Students completing the series will be invited to join us for Mardi Gras celebrations including the parade on Sunday Feb. 14th in downtown Asheville.

i'm thinking of trying to find other musicians to play with to help inspire me and to do something productive with my guitar playing. i've been playing for about thirteen years and am into neoclassical shred. influenced by paganini, bach, mozart, malmsteen, etc. i havn't played with anyone in a while (just been practicing for fun and skill) so i'm not sure where i want to go with this, but it would be nice to find like minded musicians to collaborate with. i'm in my late twenties and work days during the week. it would be nice to find similar people, i had my fill of past bandmates that were leaches, overly egotistic, or heavy drug users. shoot me an email if you feel like talking.
